Challenge

David Wilson Homes (part of Barratt Developments) have been experiencing an increase in year-on-year plot numbers and over 17,000 new homes were completed in the year ending June 2016. At Leicester Forest East the 3,4 and 5 bed new homes have been designed to replicate the look of similar housing in the area.

Solution

Russell Roof Tiles Lothian in Slate Grey and Cottage Red were specified, to reflect the slate and clay roofs of local housing. Lothian tiles form part of Russell’s Natural Range of products – an expanding selection of thinner leading edge interlocking concrete tiles that have the appearance of natural slate, stone and clay.

Clay tiles are often seen as a more environmentally friendly product, as opposed to concrete, but when looking at the whole manufacturing process concrete is in reality more sustainable – a key factor in housebuilding.

Result

Building work began on the project in 2015 and is expected to continue up until 2018. It is one of several projects that David Wilson Homes are delivering in Leicestershire, providing impressive family housing for house-hunters wanting to move to the area.

Russell Roof Tiles supplies roof tiles for private and social housing, as well as developments which are designed to provide extra care facilities to residents. The latest family homes in Leicester will provide a much-needed boost to the number of new homes in the area, as the national demand for housing continues to be at an all-time high.
