Private Housing – Derbyshire

Challenge:
To find a tile that was in-keeping with the characteristics and local architecture of the area
Solution
Lothian in Slate Grey
Location
Ashbourne, Derbyshire
Developer
Chevin Homes

Background

Chevin Homes worked closely with Russell Roof Tiles to achieve a roofing solution sympathetic to the local area for its 35 detached and semi-detached housing development near to Ashbourne.

Ashbourne, in the Derbyshire Dales, is a gateway into the Peak District and following a comprehensive Conservation Area Character Appraisal, the special qualities of the character and appearance of the conservation area were assessed. The appraisal ensures planning policies and strategies work to enhance and preserve the special character and appearance of the area.

Planning requirements stipulate that any roof tile must replicate the look of local slate materials found in the area.

Solution

The tile of choice was the Lothian in Slate Grey.

Lothian tiles form part of Russell Roof Tiles’ Natural Range of products – an expanding selection of thinner leading-edge interlocking concrete tiles that have the appearance of natural slate, stone and clay, whilst offering the long-lasting attributes of a concrete interlocking roof tile.

Dan Stack, Director at Chevin Homes, said: “We take great pride in selecting the best materials for our development and after working with Russell Roof Tiles to select the Lothian tile, we are delighted with the end result.”
