Energy Efficient Homes Utilise Green Option

Sustainability has been voted as one of the top priorities for British homeowners, with almost four in every five people considering how environmentally friendly a property is before deciding where to live.

With the current demand for eco-homes, pioneering pitched roof tile manufacturer, Russell Roof Tiles is pleased to have supplied its sustainably manufactured products for a private housing project in Swindon that has built 30 new energy-efficient homes in the area.

UK housebuilder, New Dawn Homes, who specialise in small, exclusive, privately owned developments that use new technologies to ensure reduced running costs and maintenance, has incorporated environmentally friendly features in their new development. This includes traditional cavity walls with energy conserving and sound resistant insulation in all walls, ground floors and roofs.

The Stratton Villas development in Swindon provides 30 contemporary homes arranged around a landscaped green, of which 17 are four-bedroom, 12 are three-bedroom homes, and 1 is a two-bedroom apartment located on the corner of the cul de sac.

Russell Roof Tiles traditional Highland tiles in Anthracite were specified for the project as the product’s smooth finish and mock joint provided the appearance of smaller tiles when laid broken bonded, which was a desired look for the developer, as well as the tiles being a cost-effective option.

The tile was also used due to its aesthetic look which was in keeping with the local houses which have traditional slate roofs.

The Highland tiles form part of Russell Roof Tiles’ Commercial Range of products – traditional in look, design and available in five different colours. These concrete tiles are a long-life, durable product that require minimal maintenance once installed – a feature that means lower maintenance and repair costs.

James Pendleton, Regional Sales Director at Russell Roof Tiles said: “Our Highland tiles are a popular choice due to their versatility and appearance similarities to natural slate. The product’s smooth finish and mock-bond allow a replication of small-format appearance at the more competitive cost associated with large-format interlocking tiles which made it the perfect product for the job. It was a great project to work on and we hope that this partnership continues long into the future.”

Angela Hughes, Director at New Dawn Homes adds: “The Russell Roof Tiles with the look of natural slate harmonised well with our contemporary exterior with box render bay details and slate-coloured windows and cladding. These homes in Swindon have been particularly popular and sold very quickly.”
