Lothian 145
Location
Walton-on-the-Naze, near Clacton, Essex
Developer
Taylor Wimpey

Background

Russell Roof Tiles supplied Taylor Wimpey with 250,000 sustainable Lothian 145 tiles in Cottage Red, Slate Grey and Terracotta, for its Hamford Park development in Walton-on-the-Naze.

This is the first time Taylor Wimpey has specified Lothian 145. The product has seen large popularity since it was launched in 2016, due to its excellent environmental credentials and has been used widely across various developments in the Southern counties of Berkshire, Essex, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey and Hampshire.

Solution

The thinner leading-edge tile is available in seven colours and is unique in that it offers the strong and long-lasting benefits of concrete, even in severe weather conditions. It is also able to replicate the look of other local materials especially in the South, such as slate, clay or stone.

Lothian 145 is also manufactured by Russell Roof Tiles using 15 per cent less raw materials than a standard flat interlocking tile, meaning that environmentally a “greener” choice is delivered to site on fewer pallets and therefore less packaging. The production of concrete material also has an energy saving of up to 30 per cent compared to clay tiles and can incorporate insulation and energy-saving roofs on hundreds of houses.
