Russells helps to cement social housing plans

A £12m social housing project in Scotland has become the latest development to benefit from Russell Roof Tiles’ sustainable concrete roof tiles.

The 5.6-hectare scheme in Methil Brae, Fife is one of Fife Council’s largest social housing programmes, providing 101 high quality homes for rent. At a time when the Scottish Government has promised to deliver 50,000 affordable homes by 2021, the scheme has been instrumental in helping to meet these targets and the much-needed local housing requirements.

Comprising of a mixture of one to five-bedroom properties, including semi-detached units, bungalows and cottage flats, the scheme saw Fife Council work with Kingdom Housing Association and contractors Robertson Partnership Homes to deliver the ambitious scheme.

Robertson Partnership Homes specified Russell Roof Tiles, manufactured at its local Lockerbie factory, to deliver 100,000 of its Grampian concrete tiles in Anthracite and Terracotta.

The Grampian tiles are a standard flat interlocking roof tile, combining the traditional yet stylish appearance of slate or clay with the security of an interlocking design and the economy of concrete.

Concrete roof tiles are a long life, durable product and require minimal maintenance once installed – a feature which means lower maintenance and repair costs.

The versatility of concrete allows for an authentic clay or slate effect roof tile with the benefits of offering greater strength. Compared to traditional clay roof tiles, concrete tile manufacturing requires considerably less energy usage during production and Russell Roof Tiles’ modern manufacturing methods deliver a technically consistent and quality product.

With considerable experience in social housing developments, Russell Roof Tiles’ reliable cost-effective service has given Robertson Partnership Homes confidence and assurance that they will continue to receive a quality product at the right price throughout Scotland.

Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles said: “As the demand for social housing continues to increase in Scotland, we are seeing an increasing number of contractors and specifiers request our sustainable and cost-effective concrete tiles.

“It is great that we were able to provide our Grampian Tiles on such a large and significant project, that will benefit residents in Fife for many years to come.”

Stewart Shearer, Managing Director of Robertson Partnership Homes, said: “Robertson Group has a robust preferred supply chain, in which Russell Roof Tiles is a valued partner.

“These supply chain relationships have supported us in creating high quality and durable homes across our developments in Scotland which residents will be able to enjoy for many years to come.”
